Aligning your worship with what He actually loves
Observance Blog Series – Part 2
How Allah ﷻ Loves First
Before we even begin talking about how to show love to Allah ﷻ, we need to recognize something fundamental: He has already shown us how He loves us.
Through the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and especially through His 99 Names, Allah ﷻ has revealed the many ways His love manifests.
He is al-Wadūd — the Most Loving.
He is al-Raḥmān — who loves all of creation with infinite mercy.
He is al-Raḥīm — who loves the believers with a special, sustaining love.
He is al-Laṭīf — the Subtle, the Kind.
He is al-Walī — the Protective Friend.
These are not just beautiful names — they are living descriptions of how Allah ﷻ relates to you, in ways far beyond what the human heart can even comprehend.
So the very first step in your journey to loving Allah ﷻ is not action. It is knowing Him.
This is how we begin to speak the Divine language of love.
When Love for Allah ﷻ Becomes Real
There comes a point in your relationship with Allah ﷻ when something shifts.
It’s no longer about asking for Paradise or fearing Hell.
It becomes about love — real, reverent, unshakable love.
You begin to realize:
-
Allah ﷻ is not a concept.
-
He is not a transaction.
-
He is the One you long to please.
And naturally, a new question rises in your heart:
“How do I love Him… in His language?”
Because the five love languages we use in this world —
🗣️ Words of affirmation, 🕰️ Quality time, 🎁 Gift-giving, 🛠️ Acts of service, 🤝 Physical touch —
…don’t directly apply to Allah ﷻ. They were created for relationships between creation.
So what can you give Allah ﷻ that He did not already give you?
Even your life is a loan. Even your soul is a trust.
And yet, Allah ﷻ has given us clues:
-
What actions cause Him to draw near to someone?
-
What small deeds are beloved to Him?
-
What traits does He honor in His servants?
-
Which one of His names stirs your soul?
This is iḥsān — not just doing the right things, but doing them with heart, with beauty, with consciousness of what pleases Him.
So what does love look like with the Divine?
Becoming the Beloved of Allah ﷻ
You’ve likely heard someone say, “God is my Beloved.”
And yes — He is the Beloved of everyone.
-
The trees, the oceans, the planets, the birds, the jinn…
-
Even the angels and atoms — all are in submission to Him.
-
Even your smartphone, your thoughts, your breath.
Why?
Because He said so.
Think about this for a moment.
It’s a hot day.
You’re tired, maybe a little dehydrated, and you walk over to your kitchen.
You fill a glass with water. You add some ice cubes.
You lift it to your lips — and that first sip?
It’s refreshing. Cold. Perfect.
And you say to yourself, “Ahh, that hit the spot.”
But pause. Really pause.
What had to happen for that single moment to exist?
-
That exact water — not just water in general — had to be created, stored, moved, purified, and arrive in your glass.
-
Every single drop in that glass is known to Allah ﷻ.
-
And those drops were designed — from their very molecular behavior — to give you that feeling of coolness and relief.
Not just in general — for you, in that moment, by design.
And that’s not even considering the technology of refrigeration:
-
How does a fridge even exist in your home?
-
What social, industrial, and electrical systems had to align — just so you could cool your drink?
It’s not just “because He said so.”
It’s also because His love is manifest in every second of your life.
Sometimes, you just need to observe a little more.
Because when you really see — you realize:
Every comfort, every delight, every mercy… was written for you.
So the question is not:
“Does Allah ﷻ love me?”
The real question is:
“Am I His Beloved?”
Many people say:
“I just want Allah ﷻ to love me.”
That’s beautiful. But even more powerful is this duʿā:
💬 “O Allah ﷻ, increase me in love for You. Make me worthy of Your love.”
Because Allah ﷻ already is al-Wadūd.
The capacity to love is already infinite — you’re simply asking to receive it, and to be transformed by it.
That means a refinement of character.
A reordering of priorities.
A softening of the heart.
A realignment of your speech, your intentions, your actions — with what He loves.
So next time you want something from Allah ﷻ —
Don’t just do it.
Make duʿā first. Then do it with love.
Does Allah ﷻ Have Love Languages?
Yes — in a way. Not because Allah ﷻ is limited, but because He has told us what He loves.
And let’s start with this foundational truth:
Allah ﷻ loves those who love what He loves.
It sounds circular — but it’s profound.
Because the moment you ask “What does Allah ﷻ love?”, your heart has already begun to change.
So what does He love?
Let’s begin with two of the most important answers:
Allah ﷻ Loves His Creation
You cannot claim to love al-Khāliq (the Creator) while hating His creation.
And yet, that hatred creeps in subtly:
“I hate animals.”
“I hate the rain.”
“I hate this food.”
Be careful.
These aren’t just preferences.
They can become signs of spiritual dissonance — an inner rejection of Allah’s ﷻ handiwork.
The feeling of hate is a corrosive vibration.
And when directed at something He created — it becomes a rejection of His wisdom.
Even more dangerously, many people curse the very things they depend on.
-
Hate the rain? It sustains life.
-
Hate the sun? It gives light and warmth.
-
Hate a food? It could be someone else’s only meal.
This isn’t just negativity. It’s ghaflah — heedlessness.
And when you’re heedless of Allah’s blessings, you risk losing them — or worse:
You may still see the blessing… but be barred from enjoying it.
-
You eat, but find no satisfaction.
-
You walk, but feel paralyzed.
-
You live, but feel dead inside.
“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you; but if you are ungrateful, indeed, My punishment is severe.”
— Qur’an 14:7
There is no spiritual neutrality.
With Allah ﷻ, it’s either gratitude or loss.
So ask:
“Am I rejecting something Allah ﷻ loves?”
Because the people of iḥsān don’t just love Allah ﷻ —
They begin to love what He loves.
Allah ﷻ Loves His Messenger Rasūlullāh ﷺ
Let’s be clear:
-
Rasūlullāh ﷺ is not just the best of humans.
-
He is better than the jinn, greater in rank than the angels.
-
He is more radiant than the sun and more honored than galaxies.
He is Ḥabībullāh — the Beloved of Allah ﷻ.
He is Nūr — Light.
He ﷺ was chosen. There are narrations indicating his light was the first of creation — even before the Throne itself.
Some scholars recount that Lā ilāha illa Allāh, Muḥammadur Rasūlullāh was inscribed on the Throne before creation began.
Others trace the Nūr Muḥammadī through the noble lineage of prophets, from Ādam to Āminah (raḍiyAllāhu ʿanhā), to his blessed father ʿAbdullāh.
Loving the Prophet ﷺ is not optional.
It is foundational to earning the love of Allah ﷻ.
“Say: If you love Allah ﷻ, then follow me; Allah ﷻ will love you and forgive your sins…”
— Qur’an 3:31
“Whoever obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah ﷻ…”
— Qur’an 4:80
True Love Means Imitation
You might ask: “How can I obey someone I never lived with?”
Because Rasūlullāh ﷺ left behind more than stories —
He left behind a living legacy: the Hadith.
-
Every motion in your prayer — from takbīr to taslīm — comes from the Hadith.
-
Every detail of how to live Islam with iḥsān — is found in his Sunnah.
So if you love Allah ﷻ, follow His Beloved.
That means:
-
Learn the Prophet’s ﷺ character.
-
Prefer his wisdom over your personal taste.
-
Honor his speech, his silence, his smile.
💡 This is not just love. It’s transformation.
Don’t Romanticize What You Don’t Live
Many today speak of the Prophet ﷺ with poetry — but not practice.
They say they would’ve walked beside him, fought with him, starved with him.
But would you?
They were tortured. Exiled. Famished. Grieving. Bereaved.
And many of us can’t go one hour without checking phone notifications.
So be careful:
Don’t romanticize the struggle if you’re not ready to embrace even a fraction of it.
And don’t say “ṣallAllāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam” out of habit — or for public display.
Say it because Allah ﷻ does.
“Indeed, Allah ﷻ and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ. O you who have believed, send blessings upon him…”
— Qur’an 33:56
When you say ṣallAllāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam,
you’re not just honoring the Prophet ﷺ —
you’re echoing the rhythm of the heavens.
Say it with presence. With sincerity. With awe.
Become a True Student of Rasūlullāh ﷺ
Think about how fans obsess over celebrities — their birthday, food, fashion, even pets.
So what about you?
Do you know:
-
His ﷺ favorite food?
-
His habits at home?
-
The name of his cat (Muʿizzah)?
-
The names of his children?
-
His way of speaking? Walking? Forgiving?
This is real love.
And this, too, is ʿibādah — a form of worship.
At Observance, we do not take this lightly.
We don’t just admire Rasūlullāh ﷺ.
We aim to follow him — as students, soldiers, and grateful followers.
He ﷺ is:
-
Our teacher
-
The ruler of this Ummah
-
The living embodiment of sacred excellence
-
And in the next world, he holds the highest rank among all creation
In the hereafter, there will be levels — stations of honor, nearness, and light.
And Rasūlullāh ﷺ will be at the highest of them all.
He ﷺ will hold al-Maqām al-Maḥmūd — the Praised Station —
a rank granted to no one else in all of existence.
It is he ﷺ who will intercede on behalf of the Ummah.
It is through him that many will be saved.
It is in his presence that the gardens of Paradise will open.
So if you want a place near Allah ﷻ in the Afterlife —
draw close to the one who is already nearest to Him.
So if you ask:
“How should I be?”
The answer is simple:
Be like Rasūlullāh ﷺ.
And this applies to everyone, regardless of gender.
Because your journey of iḥsān begins with knowing the one who lived it best.
